Frequently Asked Questions

Will windy conditions set off the Anti Theft alarm

Wind or gentle movement will not activate the alarm. WiTi is sensitive to two types of movement, sharp knocks and forward or backward acceleration. In practice you can walk around inside your caravan without the alarm being triggered but if you were to slam a door or bang on the side of the caravan or trailer this sharp knock would trigger the alarm.

Moving the caravan forwards or backwards, as in an attempt to steal the caravan, will also trigger the Anti Theft system.

What if someone else needs to tow my van?

If your caravan / trailer needs to be towed by another vehicle then the anti-theft system will need to be deactivated by pressing the button on the remote control.  An option is to leave the existing wiring harness in place and add the Wireless Interface in parallel then both the fixed wiring harness and the Wireless Interface can be used depending on the tow vehicle.

How much current does WiTi use

In standby mode and with the alarm and anti-theft system activated, WiTi will draw 0.08A. On a 100 A/Hr battery WiTi will be operate for approximately 1 month without the battery receiving any charge. In normal conditions and whilst travelling WiTi will draw very little additional current over existing lighting and braking requirements.
A solar panel connected to the house battery will provide more than enough power to maintain charge on the battery and operate WiTi whilst travelling.

How does the WiTi break away system work?

WiTi already manages the electric brakes for the anti-theft system and the braking function via your existing brake controller. Adding break away functionality was a natural progression. To activate the break away system, a standard break away switch needs to be installed onto WiTi and the software updated to activate the break away function. The WiTi break away then operates as any standard break away system does by applying the brakes for at least fifteen minutes in the event the caravan separates from the tow vehicle. Unlike other systems, WiTi also activates the brake lights on the caravan to alert other road users.
Although the function can be retro-fitted it will require the removal of the Trailer Unit which must be returned to us for re-programming, we recommend the break away function is included at time of purchase.
A low voltage alarm is included and activates when the voltage of the battery in the trailer / caravan drops below 11.5V. The low voltage alarm uses the same alarm as the anti-theft unit.
The WiTi Break Away system complies with all Australian Design Rules as well as NSW VIB06 for the battery low voltage alert. See here for more details :

Why must I upgrade to LED lights?

WiTi only supports LED lights for the stop / indicator and marking lights. LED lights use significantly less power than normal incandescent globes and last much longer. LED replacement globes are readily available to upgrade older style units and must be installed.

It is common for all circuits to be active at the same time, eg brake lights, indicators, driving lights and electric brakes. For example, stopped at the traffic lights with brakes applied and indicators on. The potential current draw on the battery could be close to 20A.

By comparison an LED globe will draw 0.23A, a tenth of the current draw of an incandescent globe.
This greatly reduces the current draw on the battery from 20A right down to an amp or two plus the electric brake current draw.

Upgrading to LED lights will significantly reduce the current draw on the battery and WiTi. Incandescent lights left burning for any length of time can quickly flatten a battery and permanently damage the circuitry in WiTi. The use of incandescent globes is not supported and will void the warranty.

I only have the Anti Theft system - must I still upgrade to LED?

Yes. The anti-theft system still uses the driving light circuit as a signal for arming / disarming as well as when the alarm is triggered. These must be LED lights. If this is not possible then a relay must be fitted to drive the lighting circuit. Connecting incandescent lights to WiTi will damage the internal circuitry and void the warranty.
